Leaving Estonia

Jun 06, 2009

We were up with the sun this morning! It really is nice when you get up at 3:something AM to have the sun rise with you--it provides a sense of solidarity I suppose. ;)

All went smoothly this morning in regards to getting out of the hotel and to the airport here in Tallin. Once here, checking in went quickly and security was smooth enough that we were through and good to go by not much after 5:00 AM--so we're plenty early for our 6:45 AM flight. See you in Atlanta soon!

Leaving Estonia

Just for fun a couple of things we learned about Estonia in summer (well, technically speaking, late spring):

  1. The weather can vary...a lot!
When it decides to be, the weather is absolutely gorgeous and the long days give you plenty of time to enjoy it. But Estonia's green countryside requires more than just sun and the weather obliges with plenty of rain as well. Yet the humidity here is nothing compared to what we have in Atlanta (incidentally, we're currently bracing for the punch in the chest from heat and humidity that comes from walking out of ATL on a summer afternoon). And it's kind of nice for us Atlantans to have be able to wear sweaters and jackets in June.
  2. Late to set = early to rise.
You may or may not regard the long evenings as a nice thing, but unless you have to get up with the farmers like we did this morning, you probably aren't going to regard the early mornings as good things. If such things help you, bring an eye mask to block out the light--but note that even in the worst case scenario where you just have to deal with it, you will learn to sleep with the light after enough tough nights. :)
  3. Be prepared for mosquitoes.
Now, the good news is that we didn't encounter any mosquitoes at all in Tallin. We're not sure if that's because it was much cooler or if there are other factors in play. But if you're going Tartu when the weather is warm, you'll most likely have to deal with these pests. Fortunately, a little OFF helps a lot (and you don't even have to remember to bring it with you--you can buy it in town).

To be honest then mosquitoes have been grazy this year. There been so many of them. But you arrived on time when we haven't had rainy days yet so end of the week was cleaner because of long rainy days :)

I pray that you all get back well and safe. Once again - THANK YOU for COMING and BEING PART of GOD's WORK ona OTHER SIDE of WORLD :)

Thank you, Josh, for your daily, informative and so interesting comments. I had not even heard of Estonia before KJ decided on this trip -- now, I feel like I have been there with you. "Hats Off" to all of the team -- I will be happy when you land in Atlanta. And a special hug to my son, KJ. Miss you and love you, (Mom) Ann Willson
